“I was thrilled to find out that I was a candidate for LASIK! I couldn’t have asked for the procedure to go better. The follow-up care has been great also. I’m so lucky to have such great care available right here in Sartell!”
LASIK
LASIK has been used to treat common vision problems (e.g., nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism). A LASIK surgeon uses what’s called an excimer laser to reshape the cornea. Most people who get laser eye surgery therefore reduce their need for further vision correction, such as through glasses or contact lenses. It’s common for people to have LASIK eye surgery in both eyes on the same day and return to work one or two days later.

Who are Candidates for the LASIK Procedure?
The best way to determine if you are a candidate for LASIK is to come in and talk with our doctor. Our LASIK evaluation and consultation allow you to gather information specific to you and your needs. About 80 percent of the adult population are candidates for LASIK. Many of them share key traits:
- Aged 18 or older (to ensure their prescription has stabilized)
- Have a common vision problem (e.g., astigmatism, farsightedness, nearsightedness)
- Lead active lifestyles
- Cannot or prefer not to wear glasses and/or contact lenses
- Are in general good health
What is Involved with the LASIK Consultation?
This is one of the most thorough exams you will ever have. We will determine if you are indeed a candidate for LASIK and what type of Laser Vision Correction would best suit your needs. The exam may take up to 90 minutes; during this time, we will review the procedure, perform a specialized test battery to determine your candidacy, and discuss your surgical options. During the exam, you will be dilated which will make you sensitive to light and unable to focus on up-close objects. This may last up to 24 hours after the exam.
Is There an Age Requirement for LASIK?
Although the age requirement for LASIK is 18 years of age, we recommend waiting until 21-23 years old. Once over the age of 21, the biomechanical changes in the cornea have finalized, and patients will show more stability in their prescriptions. Ultimately it is more dependent on stability of prescription, rather than age.
What if My Eyes Change Over Time?
While we look at your prescription stability before surgery, things may change slightly in the years following your LASIK procedure but it is unlikely. With our Lifetime Commitment this risk is minimized. If your eyes would change, we would perform your enhancement procedure at no-charge.
